Sacramento County IHSS Public Authority

The Caregiver Registry is a database of specially screened applicants who are looking for work as an IHSS caregiver. Not all IHSS providers are part of the Caregiver Registry. If you already know an IHSS consumer who would like to hire you as their caregiver, you do not need to apply to the Registry.

The pay rate for IHSS caregivers in Sacramento County is $10.80 per hour (as of January 1, 2014) and caregivers who work and get paid 81 hours or more a month may be eligible for individual health care benefits and dental coverage. (Please note: there is currently a wait list for health care benefits).

The Caregiver Registry is a referral service and does not guarantee employment. IHSS consumers do all hiring, interviewing, setting job schedules, training, signing timesheets, and firing.

​The IHSS program requires all providers be fingerprinted via Live Scan to complete a criminal background check through the State of California Department of Justice. State law requires the provider pay for the cost of the criminal background check and fingerprinting. If you have previously been fingerprinted as an IHSS provider in Sacramento County, you will not need to complete this requirement again. For your convenience, the IHSS Public Authority offers Live Scan fingerprinting services Monday – Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The cost to fingerprint at our office is $47, payable by cash or money order.
